Propane heaters are a fairly cheap way to heat up a small area, or to take with you when you need a source of heat on the go. There are a couple of different kinds of propane heaters to suit different needs.
Indoor propane heaters can be installed right into a home, and depending on current energy prices, might be significantly cheaper to operate versus an electric heater. You of course have to have an exhaust that lets the burned fuel out of the house, as well as a fan installed to move the hot air around.
But the really valuable application with this idea is in the portable propane heater. People are finding it much too expensive to heat their entire home, all day long, every single day. This also does not make sense if there are certain parts of the house that you tend to stay in most of the time. If you just tend to stick to the main level of your home during the day, and sleep upstairs at night, it does not make sense to heat the entire house throughout the whole day. One solution people are finding for this is to use a portable heater in heavily trafficked rooms and seal off the rest of the home. Doing so can prevent the warm air from leaking and being wasted while significantly reducing your heating costs.
You can also use portable propane heaters outside of the home, such as in the garage if you are working on a car in the winter, or out on a lake if you are ice fishing. They are also great for camping or in a cabin.
